Feedback on the Pop-Up Park

Summer 2024 to summer 2025

The forecourt of the Alter Markt suspension railway station is to be redesigned in 2027. With the Pop-Up Park, the city tried out various measures from July 2024 to February 2026. We created seating, built raised beds, removed paving slabs and replanted the green strips along the streets. Between fall 2024 and summer 2025, we wanted to know how you liked the pop-up park. We have evaluated the results of your participation so far. You can find the report at the bottom of this page.

As part of a final project, students from the Wuppertal "Public Interest Design" course have now developed proposals for various elements and areas of the square. We want to know what you think of the proposals by April 5th. Click here to go to the survey with our new participation application: https://koodiko.de/projects

After your feedback has been checked for feasibility, it will be incorporated into further plans for the final design of the square.

Information on the procedure

The forecourt of the "Alter Markt" suspension railway station is to be permanently redesigned in 2027. In 2024 and 2025, we created temporary seating and raised beds, among other things, with the "Pop-Up Park" living lab and asked you how you liked these measures and what the square should look like in the future. The "Pop-Up Park" has now been dismantled after 1.5 years, as the space is needed for the renovation of the suspension railway station.

Independently of the city's future plans, two students took a closer look at the square and its possibilities as part of a final project and developed their own proposals for the redesign (e.g. seating, greenery, removal of the parking spaces). We think the proposals are exciting and would like to hear from you in March 2026 about how you like the students' suggestions.

In summer 2024, students interviewed passers-by on site about their opinions, perspectives and experiences of the square. The feedback was incorporated into the concept for the pop-up park, which was presented on August 15. The concept was then implemented in September in the form of an open construction site, in which citizens also provided active support.

In fall 2024, spring 2025 and summer 2025, citizens had the opportunity to submit their feedback on the pop-up park via postcards and an online survey. In the summer, the online survey was replaced by our new participation application from our current research project. In addition, the Citizen Participation team spent a day on site, talking to people and recording the numerous responses. We have evaluated the results of the participation so far. You can find the report at the bottom of this page.

We will publish the corresponding access to our new participation applications here and via our usual channels in March.

Your feedback on the pop-up park will be passed on to the planning office, which will be responsible for the permanent redesign of the square. The office will check whether your ideas can be implemented and how the square can be designed to meet everyone's needs.

You can find the results of the participation so far at the bottom of this page.

More information about the project can be found here.

The conception of the pop-up park was accompanied by the Technical University of Cologne as part of a research cooperation. You can download the results report here .
