New possibilities with the place makers

In February, you were able to participate online in the parking space concept for Elberfeld's Nordstadt and Luisenviertel districts. The city administration and the commissioned offices are currently evaluating these contributions and would like to stay in contact with you at the same time. For example, with the "Platzmacherinnen" campaign directly on site.

From June 23 to July 31, ten parking spaces in Wirkerstraße, Sattlerstraße and Zimmerstraße will be temporarily transformed into places for people, plants and bicycles with the help of furniture. The furniture is on loan free of charge from Zukunftsnetz Mobilität NRW. "The campaign is part of the parking space concept that we are currently developing for Nordstadt and the Luisenviertel. In doing so, we want to encourage people to think and get into conversation with the residents: What do we need public space for? For parking? For people? We also want to try out what it's like to use the space differently. The campaign is a temporary experiment that shows what liveable street space can look like if we rethink it," explains Stella Schwietering, project manager in the Roads and Traffic department. To mark the opening of the "Platzmacherinnen" campaign, the city is inviting people to a joint planting event with activists from the "der Berg blüht" initiative on Monday, June 23 from 6 pm . The meeting point is Otto-Böhne-Platz. Ideally, those interested should bring a small shovel, a watering can and gloves.

The experiences and feedback from citizens during the campaign period will be incorporated directly into the parking space concept and taken into account when defining measures. To enable citizens to give direct feedback, there will be regular consultation hours with Stella Schwietering: every Monday from 4-5 pm and every Wednesday from 12-1 pm at the Platzmacherinnen in Wirkerstraße. Anonymous feedback is also possible: citizens can send their comments by email (platzmacherinnen@stadt.wuppertal.de), drop messages in a letterbox on site or take part in an online survey. Interested parties can also take part in designing and revitalizing the temporary squares. Whether with music, art, crafts or workshops - citizens are invited to showcase their skills and knowledge and carry out small-scale activities on the Platzmacherinnen. Anyone who is interested must register in advance via the e-mail address platzmacherinnen@stadt.wuppertal.de.

Further information and the exact locations of the Platzmacherinnen can be found on the city's homepage: https://www.wuppertal.de/rathaus-buergerservice/verkehr/verkehrsprojekte/platzmacherinnen.php.
