Public participation for BUGA31 at Nützenberg and Wassack will begin in September

The 2031 Federal Horticultural Show (BUGA31) is having a lasting impact on Wuppertal’s development. Starting in September 2026, all citizens will be able to actively participate in the planning for two key areas. The focus will be on the Nützenberg Park in Elberfeld West and the former Wassack landfill on Homanndamm in Vohwinkel.

The Nützenberg site borders directly on the core area of the Garden Show and will remain freely accessible to everyone. The city is carefully developing the park further and enhancing the quality of the space for play, exercise, and recreation. Measures include the redesign of the playgrounds and the conversion of the Kaiserhöhe sports field into a modern activity park. Visit the project page.

In Vohwinkel, a forward-looking sports park is being built on the former Wassack landfill. The area is one of the central sites of the Garden Show. The winning design by the firm relais Landschaftsarchitekten serves as the basis for the project. Citizens are now actively helping to shape the exact details of this recreational space. The City of Wuppertal is extending this invitation to all generations. Children, teenagers, families, sports clubs, and residents are contributing their ideas to the process. To ensure comprehensive participation, the city administration is combining on-site events with digital offerings online.
