Co-creation for the parking space concept
On April 25, 2026, a citizens' workshop on the parking space concept for Nordstadt and Luisenviertel took place at the Catholic educational institution in the immediate vicinity of Laurentiuskirche. A total of 17 residents from the two districts took the opportunity to get actively involved in the further development of their living environment and contribute their perspectives. In the workshop, they were able to select specific measures to optimize the parking situation, locate them on a map and prioritize them. It became clear how different the requirements and needs in the neighborhood are and how complex it is to develop balanced solutions.
In the second part of the workshop, the participants worked in small groups and planned a street space from their residential area on a scale of 1:100. With the help of various street space elements, they were able to decide for themselves how areas should be distributed and used. The exercise illustrated the conflicting objectives that arise when designing streetscapes and the trade-offs that need to be made.
The results of the citizens' workshop show above all that although the issue of parking plays an important role, it cannot be viewed in isolation. Many participants emphasized the desire for an attractive living environment with a high quality of life. Aspects such as accessibility, safe and high-quality footpaths and cycle paths as well as greater road safety were repeatedly mentioned as key concerns. It also became clear that respectful behavior and mutual consideration in road traffic can make an important contribution to improving the traffic situation. The workshop provided valuable suggestions for further action. These results will now be incorporated into the further development of the parking space concept.
