Barmen Youth Budget: These Ideas Received the Most Votes

The secret is out! At our festive closing event at the Barmen Youth Café on Thursday evening, the results of the first Barmen Youth Budget were announced. More than 800 young people voted online from September 21 through October 18. It is now clear which four ideas will be funded and implemented by the City of Wuppertal next year with a total of 50,000 €:

  • 1st place: “Free Drinking Water” (453 votes): With a budget of €10,000, an additional water dispenser will be installed in Barmen.
  • 2nd place: “Green Oases” (260 votes): With a budget of €15,000, the Barmen district will become greener.
  • 3rd place: “Benches along the Wupper” (242 votes): With a budget of 15,000 €, benches will be installed to encourage people to linger and meet up with friends.
  • 4th place: “Party Series for 14–18-Year-Olds” (231 votes): The Barmen Youth Café will organize a series of events to provide entertainment next year.

Together with Mayor Miriam Scherff and Deputy Mayor Annette Berg, the results were celebrated with pizza, music, and drinks. A huge thank you goes out to all the young people who voted or submitted ideas, as well as to all the teachers, social workers, and supporters!

Did you submit an idea that didn’t make it to the top spots? At the event, we presented ways you can still pursue your idea. If you need information or support with this, feel free to reach out to us!

The top four ideas will be funded by the city in 2027. At the same time, the pilot project will be evaluated to determine how the youth budget will proceed in the future. We’ll keep you updated on both initiatives here at talbeteiligung.de.
