Volunteer Scholarship Wuppertal: Application phase begins on April 29

Making it easier for young people to volunteer, breaking down barriers and visibly strengthening their commitment: That is the aim of the volunteer scholarship that the city wants to launch this year. There is now a timetable for the first round. From April 29, young people between the ages of 16 and 27 can apply for one of the ten scholarships. The application phase ends on May 29. The official start of the first funding year is 1 July 2026, with the first payment expected to be made in mid-July for organizational reasons.

The scholarship supports committed young people and young adults with 150 euros per month for twelve months and aims to reduce financial barriers to volunteering. To apply, applicants must already be involved in voluntary work and have a connection to Wuppertal - either through their place of residence or through the work they do in Wuppertal.
A financial need is also required, which must be demonstrated by means of a short self-declaration as part of the application. The aim is low-threshold, real-life access without extensive verification requirements.

Applications must be submitted digitally via the municipal participation platform www.talbeteiligung.de. Information on the volunteer scholarship can be found at www.talbeteiligung.de/ehrenamtsstipendium can be found here.

Scholarship holders are selected in a two-stage process: A diverse jury made up of members of the Citizen Participation Advisory Board initially awards five places, and a further five are then drawn from all other formally suitable applications.

Once the selection process has been completed, the ten scholarship holders will be informed in June and conclude a funding agreement with the city. In addition to financial support, the city is planning a non-material supporting program, such as workshops, exchange formats or network meetings.
